Our Story
Following the trail of scores of “Westward Ho” settlers from the East and South, many found our Mid-Michigan terrain a pleasant and inviting location to make their homestead. This became a very historical area that has continued to grow and become full of ancestral stories and records waiting to be found. Due to the growing demand for services and collections, our reference library opened officially on Saturday, April 17, 2004. In a quiet library, devoted to preserving these invaluable stories are the best-kept secrets in Jackson County. Huddled among hundreds of references that include maps, books, artifacts, and pictures are facts and stories that would equal the size of a main library branch. We are still collecting these stories and histories, and after serving thousands of descendants over 46 years we stand ready to assist you in your quest to discover your “roots”. This priceless collection is maintained by dedicated, knowledgeable volunteers for limited hours each week. Contact us for help in discovering your “roots”!
